A few words about

Who We Are

Mommy & Me Foundation, established in 2024 by visionary co-founders Brittany Powell and Jenika Peters, is structured as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Our organization is passionately dedicated to creating more housing opportunities for families in need throughout the diverse communities of Rhode Island. As a newly formed startup, Mommy & Me Foundation has swiftly established a robust governance structure to ensure effective leadership and comprehensive oversight of our mission-driven activities.
The foundation is governed by a distinguished Board of Directors consisting of seven esteemed members, each bringing unique expertise, diverse perspectives, and a wealth of experience to guide our organization's strategic direction and decision-making processes. These board members come from various backgrounds, including affordable housing experts, community leaders, financial professionals, and social service advocates, ensuring a well-rounded approach to addressing the complex challenges of housing insecurity in Rhode Island.
The leadership structure of Mommy & Me Foundation reflects our unwavering commitment to effective management and strategic growth. Brittany Powell serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President, spearheading our mission and overseeing day-to-day operations. Her extensive background in nonprofit management and community development provides a solid foundation for guiding the organization towards its goals. Simultaneously, Jenika Peters holds the critical positions of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Vice President, managing our financial health and supporting overall organizational strategy. With her expertise in financial planning and analysis, Jenika ensures the foundation's resources are utilized efficiently and effectively to maximize our impact.
This dual role of the founders in both executive leadership and board positions ensures a strong, direct connection between day-to-day operations and strategic oversight. Such an arrangement is particularly crucial for a startup nonprofit, as it allows for agile decision-making and seamless alignment between operational realities and long-term vision. Moreover, this structure facilitates rapid response to emerging opportunities and challenges in the dynamic landscape of affordable housing and community development.
As we continue to grow and expand our impact in creating housing opportunities, Mommy & Me Foundation remains steadfastly committed to maintaining a transparent and accountable organizational structure. Our 501(c)(3) status not only provides valuable tax benefits but also reinforces our dedication to serving the public good. This legal framework ensures that our resources are directed towards our mission, fostering trust among donors, partners, and the communities we serve.
To maintain our effectiveness and responsiveness to the evolving needs of Rhode Island families, we have implemented a system of regular governance reviews. These assessments, conducted annually, allow us to evaluate our organizational practices, identify areas for improvement, and implement necessary changes. This proactive approach ensures that Mommy & Me Foundation remains at the forefront of nonprofit governance, continuously adapting to best serve our mission and the families who rely on our support.
